Lost

Sami went missing yesterday! We were loading groceries and the door was open. She simply vanished!
At first we kidded ourselves into thinking that our neighbor had come by and taken her to play with the dog next door - which is often the case - but not this time.
Sami wasn't wearing her collar and tags. Not good.
We fanned out across the neighborhood, calling out her name. Our neighbors, Peter and Jennifer, joined the search. I printed a bunch of posters and plastered them all over the surrounding blocks.
As it got dark, things were looking bleak. The girls cried.
We awoke to a ringing phone! Someone a few streets up found Sami! Sarah, Willa, Talia and I quickly made the walk. There was Sami, standing in a stranger's front yard. We called her name, but she just stared at us - debating whether or not to acknowledge us.
Later that day, the girls and I took Sami on a hike up in Runyon Canyon. As soon as we headed up the trail, Sami started sniffing a man's shoes who stood in the middle of the path. He was carrying a toddler.
I did the customary, "Hi, how's it going?"
He responded energetically, "I'm doing really well, how are you doing?"
I thought about boring him with my lost dog story, but I opted for the, "Just enjoying this beautiful day."
"Yes it is!"
I pointed to the kid he was cradling against his shoulder. "Looks like you've got your hands full."
"Best burden a man can have."
At this point the child turned to face me, and that's when I recognized her from the cover of People magazine.
Suri?
I had to guard my reaction. I'm shooting the shit with Tom Cruise!
A second later, a very tall Katie Holmes comes sauntering up the hill. She sees me chatting with Tom and figures we must know each other.
She says, "Hi, how have you been?"
"Great, thanks!"
It's really hard to put a good sentence together when you're thinking too much about what's coming out of your mouth. So I knew I had to get the hell out of there.
"You guys have a great day, I'll see you around."
I pulled Sami and the girls up the hill and left TomKat to enjoy their hike.
